Bend Residence
At first glance, the desert landscape surrounding this Bend, Oregon home seems barren and scaleless, but on closer inspection it is teeming with diverse flora and fauna. This rustic environment inspired a triptych of richly layered volumes crafted of concrete, granite and wood, framing views of the distant mountain ranges, including Mount Rainer. At ground level, public and guest wings flank a courtyard, allowing the natural terrain to flow through the center of the home. Overhead, a bridging volume contains the private family spaces, comprising bedrooms, bathrooms, and a playroom for the children.
