Shear House

Analogous to a well-tailored garment, the design of this house rigorously integrated aesthetic, structural, and performative considerations. Like clothing, it modulates exposure of the body to the environment around it. Situated on a dense urban hillside, the adaptive remodel demanded privacy while preserving panoramic outlooks. The building’s envelope was reinvented as a tightly woven, partially operable skin that systematically loosens to gradually open its living spaces to the views beyond.
