Winged Retreat
Nestled between groves of oak and madrone trees on a steeply sloping site within a nature preserve, the home’s eastern corner burrows into the ground while the west cantilevers over a rapidly descending hillside. The roof’s unique shape is derived from both context and performance. From the exterior, it appears as a simple shed form that echoes the local agrarian vernacular; the interior is sculpted in response to daylight and the human scale of the living spaces.
