Robert Mondavi Winery
A comprehensive re-design of the Robert Mondavi Winery focuses the estate’s physical infrastructure around its essential elements: a spirit of conviviality, winemaking, and the California landscape. Decades of ad-hoc industrial additions were incisively removed, and new architecture was intricately grafted with the remaining armature. The original arch and tower, designed in 1966 by architect Cliff May, is restored and reinhabited as an tasting room and wine library. The estate is now experienced as an orchestrated sequence of terraces, culinary gardens, and state-of-the-art winemaking studios. At all scales, the design seeks to express and celebrate the deep connection between geology, soil, water, and vine.
